Kia ora ( Now you know how to say hello in Maori )

Jul 27

Here is a short article to give some news. The last article was published on February 28th but that does not mean that nothing happened since then, on the contrary! Actually we’ve just been busy!
I can hear you from here, “how are you busy, are you kidding yeah?”

Actually, we are still looking (and even more fervently than ever) for sponsors and scholarships. Our efforts bear fruits slowly. By the way, if you have contacts, tips, ideas or whatever, do not hesitate to let us know.

This summer, we spent our spare time preparing all our visas, and there is still a lot to do. It is particularly difficult for countries like Russia or China since you need to gather  a  large amount of documents together an even worst, they are sometimes not available more than three months in advance, therefore we will have to make them during our trip in cities like Hong-Kong or Delhi.

Moreover, we had to undergo multiple injections to get protected against local diseases such as rabies and other Japanese encephalitis. As always, you must think about your vaccines a lot before the departure date as the queue is long (very long) to get an appointment.

As we are (very) nice, here is a summary of the main guidelines from this article if you’re preparing this kind of journey:

  • Anticipate your visa application, if you need help (and you need help) to deal with all this red tape, be sure to ask organizations like Action Visas, Visa Express, Home Visas and more.
  • Get your vaccines early . You can browse a lot of sites to determine which vaccines are necessary, but your GP will often advise you. It is highly recommended to go through a specialized structure, simply call (many now offer a faster Internet registration) the passenger service of your local hospital to obtain a consultation, you will be well supported, advised and your vaccines will be administered at a great price.
  • Finally, there are many types of “world tour tickets”: some work through miles, through areas or through the number of steps while some work independently of all these criteria. Many companies now offer world tour tickets, they work in alliances: Star Alliance Around the World, One World. Other companies are specialized in personalized World Tour tickets: Connoisseur’s Travel, Travel Nation, Trail Finders.

Know that it will often be very advantageous to go through an English agency imposing a departure from London.

Why NAH?

Feb 28

NAH is formed with the initials of our three first names:

-Nicolas Garnier

-Adélaïde Vallee

-Hélène De Vestele

but also the initials of three words that match the spirit of this trip around the world:

World Tour as the foundation of our project: a world tour of four continents.

The logo symbolizes our journey with our three figures walking on the globe, with Nicolas with the camera, Adelaide with a pencil and Hélène with a notebook.

Welcome to our website where you can find all the news about our project NAH World Tour.

NAH World Tour in a nutshell is:

  •  Photo-reporting: the aim here is to shoot people as they live everyday, to be able to show them as they really are and to seize emotions rather than bringing back pictures that every tourist can bring back from Brazil, India, Australia and so on. We really want to get quality pictures and we will organize some exhibitions as soon as we get back home.
  • Interviews: it is true that pictures sometimes  say more than words, but we also want to collect interviews all around the world, to ask people we will meet how they feel, think and live. Moreover, one of our objectives with these interviews is to make a portrait of France as it is seen from all over the world. So as to draw it, we will ask people wherever we go how do they imagine France or what do they think about this country.
  • Hop&Trip: This project was initiated by Hélène to allow students from Nantes to go abroad while they wouldn’t be able to afford such trip by themselves. They will be hosted by volunteer families during their stay. It is obvious that those families have got to be checked to make sure the students can stay safely with them, and that is what we will do. This year, all the volunteer families are living in Benin. To help the project grow, we will also try to recruit new families for this project.
  • Sharing our experience with young students: all along the project, we will give news to a class of young kids and answer every questions they may have about the world in general or a particular country. We will answer them through our site and by recording videos of us giving them explanations and little fun lessons.
  • Helping foreign students to learn French: we also work hand in hand with a French institution whose goal is to teach French to young people who fled their country and often never went to school. The goal here is to make them eager to learn French and to make their lessons interesting and funny. We will particularly work on prejudices about every country in the world: countries we will go through but also countries where they come from, in addition to prejudices about French people.
